Boys put up a good show again by notching a pass percentage of 60 per cent as opposed to 58 per cent by girls in the Secondary Examination of Class XII of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education, the results of which were declared Thursday.
The result showed up high percentage trend with as many as 146 students sharing first 20 positions in all four streams—Science, Arts, Commerce and Home Science.
Another healthy trend has been increase in overall pass percentage as this year’s 59 per cent result is better by two per cents than the last year with boys improving pass tally by three while their fairer sex counterparts by six per cent respectively.
A total of 49956 students appeared for the exam of which 22037 were girls and the remaining were boys.
In Science stream, 98 students have scored first 20 positions and interestingly both boys and girls have shared equal number of positions with 49 each. However, first position was bagged by a boy—Tyndale Biscoe’s Atif Jan son of Mohammad Ayub who scored 98 per cents (490 out of 500 maximum marks). The second position was shared by eight students who all scored 489 with percentage of 97.8 per centum. They include: Amir Yousf Sofi (Tyndale Biscoe), Aqib Nazir (SP Higher Secondary School Lal Chowk), Asim Mushtaq (New Green Land Educational Institute Shopian), Nadia Mubarak (Government Higher Secondary School Yaripora Anantnag), Naziqa Zahoor, Sayeeda Syed, both students of Mallinson Girls Higher Secondary School Sheikhbagh, Baramulla Saint Joseph School’s Mehroosh Roub Shad and Saima Majeed Moona.
Ten students shared the third position by scoring 97.60 per cent with total 488 marks.
